M.V. Kunang departs Pengkalan Ubur nightly at 23:05, calling at all seven stations of the line. Crossings hold in every weather up to force six; above that, the strait decides, and the strait has never once been argued with.

The Current
“A current is only the sea keeping an appointment.”
The field beneath this page is not a picture of the tide-stream. It is the tide-stream, computed from harmonic constants observed at Batu Hampar light since 1968 — fifty-eight years of the strait, measured one night at a time.
Drift is how fast the water carries you. Set is where it means to take you. Both are read live from the field under your hand: put your cursor on the chart above and the panel follows it, the way the mate’s pencil follows the log line.
The red window is tonight’s north-bound run; the blue, the run home. Everything else belongs to the fish.

Batu Hampar south cardinal repainted
Buoy № 4 has been repainted and its topmark renewed. The light character is unchanged. Mariners are reminded that the rock itself has not been consulted and does not move for anyone.

Firefly craft off Pulau Kunang
Small viewing craft work the mangrove edge between 20:00 and 23:00. Pass at dead slow. A wake puts the fireflies out, and they are older customers of this strait than we are.
NTM 13/26
Withdrawn sailing of 03:00
The 03:00 crossing shown on older sheets was withdrawn in 1989. It is nonetheless reported from time to time, lit and underway, holding the old course. Do not hail it. Do not board it.
